Hi, this is our first year building an otb intake and we were wondering what is the best fabric/tubing to use. For the roller, we plan on using VEX’s VersaRollers. Thanks!
Hello!
Some teams have had great success with VersaRollers over the past few years. You can also experiment with 3D printing your own tube endcaps and pressing bearings into them to work on a dead axle. You can wrap the polycarb tubes with some grip tape. Check out 1678’s roller last year for an example. It might be lighter than VersaRollers and will give you more versatility. Just an idea. Good luck!
If you’re already looking at VersaRollers, I might recommend you look into our new 2" Grip Tube. It comes with silicone pre-installed to the tubing and we offer a much improved Hub solution for the new roller.
More info can be found in this post, too!
If the smaller diameter roller is neccessary for the design, our application examples on the VersaRoller Product Page utilize McMaster P/N 5234k91.
However, other materials with similar dimensions should work similarly well. YMMV on the preferred material for tubing.
Thriftybot also has some awesome new products for 1.125 ID tubing, you can find them here: Tube Rollers
