The title says it all. It’s currently 1:50pm on the first day of qualifications and they just started the 4th qualification match. I don’t want to speculate on the causes, since I’m at home watching from the stream, but this is the worst delay I have ever seen at a FIRST event…
Anyone have any information about what is going on?
I was wondering the same thing but I was just at Granite state and after the third match they called a 30 min lunch period (I forget what time it was) and then asked the pits for some bolts to give to the field engineers. And A quick look at the blue alliance page shows that the even still has only played 3 matches with match 4 supposed to have started at 11:24, its 1:53 now. I don’t know what was wrong with the field, so i wont speculate that.
At GSD about an hour ago they announced that the school’s wireless was interfering with the robot’s ability to connect to the field. That was resolved and all robots are connected to the field but there is still a delay for some reason.
Seems that there has been a rash of buggy fields at district events; The CHS Northern Virginia event only completed 6 matches or so, per TBA (including one replay) by 2PM.
They are repairing a stove hood in the cafeteria. While it is OOS, the yummy burgers are making it smoke alarmy.
The Fire Marshall is here to make sure that any alarms are indeed false.
As far as being behind schedule, it’s a very complex field, not all of the parts were there. The field is fully functional now, but some parts are breaking (boiler agitator, gear lifters. Such is week one.
I’ll have to say, as one of the field setup volunteers at Granite State, this was one of the toughest fields to set up. The airships and boilers were fussy, and the airship cabling was more than a little complicated. I’ve done field setup for many years, and this was far and away the worst (we started way earlier than some years: we had the carpet down by noon, but were still tweaking field issues and working around some missing parts when I left for my hotel 12 hours later)
We had major delays due to missing parts, and that’s withFIRST headquarters right down the road for a parts run.
I do know that the FTAs took really good notes on how to avoid some of the issues in later setups.
Day 1 at Waterbury was a hot mess. We played matches until 9:00 pm. I have to hand out huge complements to the people running the event. Amazing recovery Day 2. Other than the disappointment of only playing 11 matches instead of 12, they executed really well on Sunday (77 qualifications matches played) and the event was finished, including awards ceremony, before 7:00 pm.
Overly complex field setup (especially airship) in my humble opinion. Hoping kinks are now worked out and following weeks go much better!
So I was on field reset at Waterbury. We didn’t finish the field until after noon on Saturday. The first few matches had issues with the boilers and the ropes for the gears. We were in a rush to get the matches going, so the we made the initial ropes in a hurry, and I think we only had one break on Sunday.
