I’ve only heard it in the background - our team has been spending almost all our downtime in regionals working in the pit, away from the arena - but what is that really dramatic music they play for the beginning of each section of the game? I know I’ve heard it after opening ceremonies and after quals.
What is it?? From what I’ve heard, I really like it…
Other than that, in their playlist, I’ve noticed/recognized Around The World (yay, a piece I knew before robotics ;)), Ready to Go, the techno version of Cotton-Eye Joe, YMCA, One More Time, and some others that haven’t been played more than a few times. What other pieces have you all noticed? Maybe we should compile a FIRST playlist!
And this year in the Pacific Northwest Regional there was a very special song in the playlist: Amigo Punk, by Graforréia Xilarmônica.
A band from our city that nobody else there knew, but we asked the “DJ” to play it and it was really special to us!
the men in the team who had cameras refused when I asked them to turn the cameras on to record the song, though
another one bites the dust, lowrider, those are first classics
this year i heard some acdc, and motivation by sum41
that was at UTC, i hardly recognized any of the music at the NYC regional
Umm. Yeah the music at NYC sucked, but the DJ did play some Slipknot for us! I heard that stooopid song by Missy Elliot “Get Your Freak On” like 15 times through the whole thing.
Yucky Rap!
my team tried t oget the NYC dj to play Ole by the Bouncing Souls. it sorta became our team song after we won the rookie all star award on friday at NYC. after we went outside to catch our bus, Dan started singing it, and we al joined in stupid dj only played crap, i mean rap.
I have been an adult FIRSTer for 3 years now. The music at the GLR always seems to rock, maybe that’s because the Motor City knows how too!! Absent though, are the oldies but goodies: Mteallica, Anthrax, MegaDeath, Iron Maiden, ZZ Top(manic mechainic!),Ted Nuggent, Ministry, SoundGarden… and oh yea, the roar of a BigBlock Chevy dropping the hammer at 7500 rpm and buzzing through all 4 gears!! What can I say I love Chainsaw music!!

I think I know the music you’re thinking of, and I don’t know the name either. Is this it? Can anyone ID it? (Please excuse my little MIDI file.)
<edit>
Never mind. I found it. (The one I was thinking of anyway;) ) It is Sirius by the Alan Parsons Project. It is on Jock Rock, Vol. 2. You can search on Amazon.com for Jock Rock, and listen to a clip there.

Yucky Rap!
Woo im in that boat…i cant stand rap
FIRST needs to work on their present playlist…with all the garbage they play at events (and even worse hearing it multiple times) something needs to be done
At Buckeye they did play some System of a Down
Metallica and Nirvana needs to be played…wow that will pump some adrenaline
Finally: The Cha Cha Slide needs to go! (Sorry KT)****
What about some ska? You know, Reel Big Fish, Mighty Mighty Bosstones - some of that suff. And of course, who can forget the ska/punk/irish band, the Dropkick Murphys? When it comes down to it, if you want high-energy but don’t want pop or hip-hop, punk/ska is the way to go.
But I agree with you DJ Fluck - we definately need some Nirvana. Perhaps more grunge/punk as well. Days of the Phoenix by AFI would be a great song. It’s one of those songs where you just gotta throw up your arms and celebrate the energy beind punk culture (yeah yeah, some of you may not like ‘punk culture,’ but the music DOES have energy behind it). A lot of stuff off of the Bouncing Souls’ Hopeless Romantic album - such as “Kate is Great” - would be great too (no pun intended).
CD’s would be great, except for the whole DMCA thing. That really puts a lid on fun promotions like that.
<edit>“Kate is Great” isn’t on Hopeless Romantic. But that doesn’t change the fact the Hopeless Romantic has tons of good stuff. '87, Fight to Live, and It’s Not the Heat, It’s the Humanity are all great songs with tons of energy. And of course, how can you forget Ole - the cover of the ever popular euo-soccer anthem (and coincidentally, our team song). If you’re into Bouncing Souls, Maniacal Laughter also has some good high-energy songs - but thats an earlier album, so it’s not as musically advanced as Hopeless Romantic. However, I would recommend The Freaks, Nerds, and Romantics with the catchy refrain “We’re gonna play nomatter what they say!” off of Maniacal Laughter

It sounds kind of like it, but I’m not sure…
Our team was at the Silicon Valley (San Jose) and Southern California (Los Angeles) competitions, for those who wanted to know.
Oh, also, how about some classic old-skewl pop? Like Love Shack or Rock Lobster by the B52’s? Istambul by They Might Be Giants? What about classic rock like Peace of Mind by Boston, or Teenage Wasteland by The Who (the Nissan-Not-That-You-Would-But-You-Could-car-polo commercial)? Techno is awesome, but playing nothing but techno is as bad as playing nothing but pop or playing the same song 5 times a day…
Well at KSC there was rap, sadly, and way too much disco:(
Occasionally there was some good rock, i did hear nirvana and like 2 decent trance songs but that was pretty much it.
i think they need to play something that will stop us from covering our ears, or just idioticly swaying our shoulders between matches, like somthing that will have us goin until we vomit
