I’m starting to program our robot’s autonomous mode(s) and not sure what all would be best for us to do. We’ve kinda decided (for now) to shoot our 3 discs, back up a little, and turn around so that when the period ends, we can immediate dash for the feeder station
Anyone thought of something creative or that some people like us might overlook?
If you can shoot and move in autonomous, why not have it to where you can start at one of the back corners in autonomous? The left/right margin of error for the middle goal is quite large and it would get you out of the way for autonomi that need the middle.
We’re muddling around with a 9, 7, and 5 disc autonomous modes. Who knows what we’ll actually get working though. Luckily it’s easy to change our gear ratio to one of 4 possibilities to find the balance of PID tuning and time minimization.
A 7 disk autonomous is a lot harder than people are making it to be, but that’s on our table of autonomous outcomes we’re looking at, but we’ll probably save it for a rainy day (i.e. a match with almost no hope of winning).
My team is pretty much doing the same. Score frisbees. Maybe go somewhere. Theres probably going to be a few climbing autonomouses. I really want to see a defensive autonomous, but I have no idea how it would work, or what it would do.
Our robot will use sensors to collect information about its environment, then discard that information and drive into a wall.
We’ve done that autonomous. After several years of refinement we decided to skip the information collection and just drive into the wall at the earliest opportunity.
Our team plans on either just shooting 3 discs, or starting in back of the pyramid, shooting 3, and then picking up 2 more and shooting those. We want to be flexible too for other teams.
I don’t think we have a strategy yet, but we might come up with a tactic such as having the robot shoot three discs, then sit there with a big grin on it’s face
We designed our robot to only shoot into the top goal from the top of the pyramid, so in autonomous we climb up the pyramid, shoot one frisbee, climb down, pick up another frisbee, climb up, shoot, climb down, and then drive in a donut on the center line.
Did I mention that we can only shoot the frisbees sideways?
hmm… This is a reply to Jared, who’s on 341, and the poster above is from 25… and both mentioned driving into a wall… I’d say that 25 and 341 are onto something here…
If everything goes according to our plan this will be our autonomous strategy but additionally if time permits back up to the center line. Or … ram into a wall.
I don’t know why so many people are ramming the wall when there are so many more interesting options. You can ram a pyramid upright and flip over. Or, consider the case where you push your floor frisbees down to the other team then shoot your frisbees into their goal. How about just turning around and launching all of yours downfield? Or the classic zoom around running into all your partners.
