So we have Train and plane threads, but how about the humble 'ol bus!
For me, it’s the rickety old long-distance double deckers we have here in İstanbul. Mostly because I love the view. There’s nothing quite like zipping through the city, sitting in the top front seat, getting a sunburn, and enjoying the view. Bonus: The drivers make you feel like you’re on the Harry Potter ‘Knight bus’ (really, they don’t follow road markings, if there’s space, they go, shoulder, between lanes, whatever gets you there on time… )
My second favorite is the soon to be extinct (for good reason) old high floor busses, because I can stand with my head in the open window and enjoy the breeze and the view while going along(I am very short - 5’4" - so I normally don’t even come close to bus-window height). Short of taking the ferry, there’s not much that is akin to enjoying a quick bus ride down Barbaros boulevard with the view of the trees lining the street and the Bosphorus in front of you opening to the marmara sea.
In Chicago my favorite were the nova busses because they had a window in the back of the bus, so they always felt more open and light filled.
