What is your frame weigh?

I was just curious to see how much material other teams are putting into their frame. Are you making it big and strong - to take a beating from falling trackballs and 150 lb robots flying around the field in excess of 15 fps, or small and light - to be nimble and save weight for your manipulator? i’m just looking for the frame. no motors or wheels just the bare metal frame.

10.75 lbs. with all hardware and bearings.

IFI says the kit frame runs 13.4 pounds. I believe we’ll have means to remove a pound or two from it, so probably 11.something. After the beating we put last year’s frame through, I’m not worried about the durability in the slightest.

Frame? huh…we still haven’t figured out what type of drivetrain we’ll have, so the frame could weigh from about 10 lbs to about 20, with the rough plans we have so far.

Car type drive and steering would be lightest, then tank style, and mecanum would be heaviest.

We’re in the same situation here. We are actually thinking about the game & strategy & optimized designs before actually just going ahead and building something.

By the middle of week 2 we should be cutting parts, and by end of week 2 we should have at least a rolling chassis on the ground… (or flying around, or hovering… whatever kind of design we decide to go with to make the bot move around).

What constitutes a frame? Are the wheels included? Trans ? Motors? Shafts? Bearings? Or do you want just the metal with no drive components?

just the bare frame. nothing else, just the metal.

We haven’t got any actual metal yet, but our calculated weight is around 15 pounds if we don’t go with any weight reduction. I’ll probably cheesehole a few pieces that I feel don’t need to be that strong. Our complete drivetrain should be around 50 with motors, wheels, electronics, bolts, etc. Maybe less.

We’re concentrating more on having a “heavy” chassis this year. Last year we took too much material out and it wound up bending in a few spots, could of been avoided if we had bumpers though.

Our prototype frame was 6.5 lbs, but that was with nothing welded to it for manipulator mounts and a big square gap in the front. Battery mounts and transmission mounts are welded to it as well, so those are included. We used 1" square alum 6061 extrusions with a 1/16" wall.

We’re in CAD right now with the new frame and the mounts since we want to weld as much to the robot frame as possible, and it looks like we’ll squeak by with about 9 or 11 lbs depending upon which design we go with. After being in the oven for a while since we powder coat it, it should be nice and strong, and beam with purple.
