On our way to our events and after day 1 (at the hotel), my team plays Avalon The Resistance. It’s a great social whodunnit, similar to mafia, but more complicated. I was wondering what games do other teams play together?
On my old team we’d bring our switches and connect them to the TV and just play switch games. 2018 we did Mario Kart with different challenges, like one of them we had to play it blindfolded while someone else “coached” us by giving us directions. 2019 once Super Smash Bro’s ultimate came out the focus switched there to Smash tournaments which were a lot of fun.
Two years ago the main game was Avalon. Last year it was smash bros ultimate. Every year has some cards against humanity
Mario Kart for the switch is an everlasting battle. Its pretty simple to explain how to play for the people on our team that don’t really play videogames. We also play smash ultimate but that one is a little harder to explain. Newbies to the game usually keep walking of the end and dying.
Switch games like Mario kart and smash ultimate are our teams personal favorites.
Everyone saying Avalon should really keep an eye out for our games of Forum Mafia over in the #other:games-trivia category - Chief Delphi has been running games consistently for around a year now, and we even sent a representative to the Forum Mafia Championships last year (and are expecting to do so again). It’s a lot of fun, and takes all the best aspects of games like Avalon but allows much more in-depth discussion due to days lasting 36-72 hours as opposed to merely minutes. I highly recommend joining the next game when signups go live, but if you want to you can sign up as a backup player for the upcoming Zombie-themed game, or look at our hub page for a better explanation of who we are and what we do, and to view some of our other past games. If you’re interested, you can simply set the #mafia tag to “Watching” to notify you of any new Forum Mafia games that go live. I do hope to see you there!
Advertising aside, I second Mario Kart, but also Secret Hitler (a game similar to Mafia or Avalon but with a political theme and more mechanical structure that is incredibly fun in groups) and Exploding Kittens (a last-man-standing-wins card game that is super easy to pick up and play). All three are great ways to pass the time.
Not a board game or video game.
It’s called Physics Ball.
Incredibly simple rules, played with a beach ball (safety first).
It’s a fast paced game of catch. All throws must be catchable; you can’t throw the ball back to the member who threw it to you; the ball is in play until it touches the ground. Fake throws are encouraged.
It’s great alternative when it’s raining outside and we can’t pass a soccer ball around.
Imagine playing that with robots. GDC get in here now!
