With the FRC season about to begin, I was wondering if any teams had a go-to Energy Drink? Or if there is some other method you have of getting through long work nights?
Our programmers have a strict diet of Mtn. Dew and Ramen throughout the entire build season
The team itself doesn’t really have anything past water.
For me, Diet Coke. If it’s an urgent situation (counted on one hand over a year if that), Red Bull.
We’re a fan of half-frozen orange juice (not caffinated, but very refreshing) or the old gold mountain dew. At our old build space, we had a boba store across the way, but no such luck at the new digs
Capri Sun
Monster
I’m a coffee purist, but the students seem to prefer either Monster or Red Bull. Given the choice between those, I’d take the Red Bull in a pinch.
I got the other senior on my team on Mtn. Dew Game Fuel. So probably that.
We don’t do long work nights… If it’s 10 PM, the mentors are closing up the shop and the kids gotta be out.
Other than that, food and water.
our team consumed an ungodly amount of mountain dew game fuel at competition last year
Whatever is in the food cabinet.
Our team has “Boba Fridays” where some upperclassmen pick up boba for the rest of the team every Friday meeting. The drinks aren’t free, but delivery is! We also don’t give change back, and usually we’re too lazy to count out exact amounts so our team usually makes a tiny profit each week haha
Our software guy/driver/team president drinks “blue banner juice”, which to my recall is a little bit of coffee diluted with a lot of water in a blue plastic water bottle.
Water is amazing and we always loved it
Personally, the largest dang black iced coffee available. If I want to splurge, it’s an iced Americano, still black. Some weirdos add milk or sugar, I’m told.
The girls on our team do a mass starbucks run when we need something … anything from refreshers to cold brew keeps us running depending on the day.
We’re a Guayaki Yerba Mate-fueled team. Mate is like an herbal tea from South America with a ton of naturally occurring caffeine. There are a few different companies that provide canned or bottled mate at 120-150mg caffeine (a standard redbull is 80mg.) All natural though, so it tastes far less offensive and has a bunch of other good stuff going on.
We also happen to be sponsored by them, so we roll up to regionals with about 100 cans for a <25 person team. If you’re ever at a competition with us, swing by!
water.
You know what they say, a “water a day keeps the ankle-breaking autonomous robot away”.
Uh… Troy? Where did you apply the water? I see an autonomous smoke generating robot where the ankle-biter used to be.
Incidentally, we use reverse-osmosis water as our primary and bottled as the backup if we can find it–if not, whoever’s thirsty checks to see if the tap water’s still drinkable.
