WHAT kinda Computer?

Now that the whole thing is over, just out of my curiosity,
WHat kind of computer did you guys use for modeling, animating, and
rendering?
I have a really sucky computer that i bought almost 3yrs ago, and did most
of the part. 733mhz with 128 sdram and voodoo3 to do all the animating and modeling. Then i used the school computer to render, i think it was 1200mhz dual procesor with 1024ddrRam, and Geforce2. What kind of computers did you guys use?

I used my laptop to do everything.
Its a Dell Inspiron 8200, P4m 1.6 gHz, 256 MB DDR, GeForce 4 440 MX.

Yay I can brag!

  • Pentium IV 2.53ghz
  • 512 (now 1024) MB of PC2700 DDR 333 Ram
  • Two 80 GB Seagate Barricuda 4 Hard Drives
  • ATI 128 MB Radeon 9700 Pro
  • Antec Performance PlusMidtower (Painted and Modded)
  • DVD-ROM
  • Plexwriter CD-RW (not sure speeds… cant remember and faceplate is painted black - its fast though)

I know that things like the case/drives don’t matter. I still wanted to brag though.

Heh, I wanted my friend Ian on the team so I could use his computer to render… but here it is anyway as he’d want me to show it off:

AMD Athlon 2700+
Zalman Pure Copper CPU Cooler (sooo pretty)
ASUS A7N8X Deluxe Mobo
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
2x 256mb PC2100
1x 40GB 7200rpm Western Digital
1x 60gb 7200rpm Western Digital

It was 15300 something on 3dmark2001se.

Modeling - 450 mhz 256 mb RAM
Rendering - 3 computers - 1.8 ghz 248 mb RAM at school

ok, heres the list. we used the same computers for modeling as we did rendering:
1 1.6ghz Athlon XP, 512 DDR, GForce 4 Ti4600
1 1.7ghz Athlon XP, 512 DDR, GForce 3 Ti200
1 Dual Processor 2.0ghz Athlon MP, 512 DDR, GForce 4 Ti4200
1 Dual Processor 450mhz Pentium 3, 768 Ram

These are the main ones we used to model+render. Except for the bottom one, they are all owned by members of the team. Also, on and off we had another Dual 2.0ghz MP and a 1ghz XP to help us, but the people who owned those kind of dropped out of animation towards the end. Oh yeah, we also had two 300mhz machines which were only good to model on toward the very beginning.

at our disposal we had 8 dual 1.2 ghz intel p3s 512 mb ram in each. Did we use them all? only when rendering over the network.

Well, Dan and luke have a self-proclaimed “Fastest computer in the county,” however i beg to differ. But anyway, we also use about 15 550x2 P3’s which are incredibly slow!

Btw…even using network rendering, it took many hours… endless nighttime rendering…so as of now…i still don’t know if the animation is done…And I was at our last meeting!!! :ahh:

Well, I did all the 3ds work this year on a Dual Athlon Mp 1.267 ghz machine (its supposed to run at 1.67 ghz, but asus bug dosent let me). Its got a gig of ddr 2100 and a radeon 9700 pro (Using Open GL driver). Western Digital special edition 80 gig drive.

However, next year…::eyes widen with anticpation:: school asked me to redo their order for 250grand in computer compnonets. They brought the dell guy in for me and jonny and mark to talk to (The state rep came in)

Our Visual Computer Modeling lab is getting 26 dual xeon 2.4 ghz machines. Gig of DDR. 40 gig and 120 gig hard drive. 19" CRT’s to go with. And nVida Quadro cards (dunno how big yet). Also, gigabit ethernet.

Also, im getting 53 p4 machines for two other labs (which I might do a mini/background installation of max for net rendering).

Then we’re getting 1-3 servers to run Win 2k ADS on and a NAS (Network attached storage) to throw a few hunderd gigs on the network

more or less:  <— me

ok so I offered my comp to my team for animation but they really didn;t get into the animation this year…but I just wanted to brag

2.2 ghz xeon processor
1 GB of Ram
120 GB HD
Phillips DVD+RW-DO1
Samsung CD-ROM
ATI all-in-wonder 8500 DV
Creative SB Live

and my 17 LCD and wireless mouse and keyboard…yippie…I feel like the king of the dorks :stuck_out_tongue:

*motherboard supports dual processors and I will be adding one soon
