I were really wondering why kraken FOC lower than only kraken.
CD bias at its finest… everyone’s gotta get the fanciest, latest thing, eh? 44% on Krakens that we don’t even have our hands on yet… whoa!
It’s interesting how 22% say they are going to use a Neo 550 for turning, but only 12% said they would be running MAXSwerve in this poll:
I guess not enough sample size yet?
Wait until more than a couple dozen people fill in the poll!
Did you consider that not everyone buys COTSCommercial, off-the-shelf modules?
The amount of teams running non-COTS modules is pretty low, and the percentage of non-COTS modules using 550s is about half. While it can be a factor, I don’t believe that it’s enough to make up even half of the difference.
Also double a couple dozen people have filled out the poll!
Seems to have leveled out with more time. I’m unsurprised that NEO 1.0/1.1 is now leading both polls; there are plenty in the market now, and I imagine many are going wait-and-see on the Kraken and NEO Vortex.
I’m equally surprised and unsurprised by the Falcon 500’s placement in the poll. Surprised because the people that got them sorted love them, unsurprised because they were unobtanium for most of their run and appear to be a dead product unless some serious kiss-and-make-up happens.
This guy statistics.

Agreed. What you can source now will always trump promises of delivery no matter how well intentioned. We’re considering the vortex but the Neo is a safe backstop for us just in case REV can’t come through.
So glad the abbreviations exist now, forgot what FOCField Oriented Control meant
Assuming REV and WCPWest Coast Products’s update posts are final and no delays happen, we will likely start with NEO Vortex, and then if we find a benefit in switching to Kraken we might.
If there are further delays we have a box full of neo 1.1s.
We most likely won’t use FOCField Oriented Control this year.
I amAndyMark surprised about the amount of teams that are using NEO V1.0/V1.1
Teams using NEO 550 for steering I assume is for teams using max swerve but for teams using OG NEOs, why? Is it cause you already have them in stock?
Why is there no option for the beloved Nidec brushless motor?
The Neo is the only motor you can actually buy right now. Everything else is a preorder.
FOCField Oriented Control requires Phoenix Pro which is an extra cost teams might not want to pay for or can’t
Plenty of brushed motors available at low low prices…
Ok @Holtzman, what are y’all cooking up there?
Is that OK to use Falcon for steering and Kraken for driving?
If you only had Krakens, I would say yes
but if you had Krakens and neos (or even falcons), I would do Kraken drive, and Neo steer, and leave the extra krakens for mechanisms / spares
