Hey! So I am going to worlds as a Dean’s List Finalist and a Student Ambassador without my team(they did not qualify). As worlds get closer and closer I am not exactly sure on what to pack. What would yall recommend?
Plenty of teams shirts so you can trade!
DEODORANT. Lots of it… please.
Safety glasses, enough confidence to talk to teams and do awesome in your interview, and a way to take tons of pictures!
A backpack to carry all your stuff and t-shirts. It helps keep you hands free.
Speaking of hands, take hand sanitizer.
Camera
As we like to say, no stinky pits in the pits.
Since I expect some people to come to this thread to get ideas about what to pack as a team that’s competing, I figured I’d give a suggestion for those of you who will be in the pits or on drive team.
You will be walking A LOT at worlds! It’s a huge event, you may be walking up to 2x the steps as a normal event. You may even have a pit that is the farthest away from both your division field and the practice field.
Bring comfortable shoes. Bring something to sit on. I suggest getting a few of these: Tripod stool
These are absolute life savers. You can stow a few of them in your pit or cart and unfold them while you’re in the pit, queue, or in line for the practice field.
I believe masks will be required, so bring comfortable ones.
Buttons to trade are popular.
Sunscreen.
Haha, I will make sure to bring some extra old team shirts I have along with some team buttons(provided I have enough space)!
Dean’s List Finalist and Student Ambassador is a great combo to go to champs. I did this back when I was a student without my team, and it’s a really fun experience.
I know this isn’t what you asked, but some additional advice: the student ambassador folks are flexible (especially if you email them in advance). Find some time to either volunteer in another role (may be too late, but there’s always some walk on opportunities) or just explore. Even if you return as a mentor or volunteer, this will likely be your only time at champs where you are really free to do your own thing most of the time – take advantage of that and soak it all in.
Resume & Business Cards, especially if you’re actively applying to college/jobs

A refillable water bottle. When you enter the convention center, there are security droids to search any bags. They are not merely looking for dangerous items, they are protecting the venue’s contracts with its food vendors. Not an exaggeration: This is every venue’s highest priority. They won’t let you bring in drinks, even water. (Carry any snacks on your person. They’ll steal them from your bag.) A bottle you can refill from fountains is VERY handy!

USB battery pack. The day is long, it’s hard on phone batteries.
Thank goodness for cargo pants
Nobody has mentioned it yet, so the old man inside of me is just yelling “EXTRA SOCKS, YOU NEED TO BRING EXTRA SOCKS!”.
