On my big bandsaw I added a second DC motor/drive and a 10:1 worm gearbox. I carefully set things up so that both motors are at the same radius WRT the main pulley. Both have a slide to allow you to move the belt and tension things.
With that I have steel, stainless, slow wood/Aluminum, and scary wood speeds
