What was your SAT score (poll, don't have to post)

Just wanted to see what the brain trust at CD is like on the SATs. Now, I know the thing has changed over the years (and will next) so this won’t be a really good indicator, but you know.

Well not an SAT but on my PSAT i got somewhere around 1350ish, from what i knew of how to figure out the raw scores to actual scores, and now i dont remember the raws, so i cant actually tell.

1220 this time around. However, with Purdue’s “best math and best verbal” score system, I have a 1250 with them - Take my 640 math from the first test, and my 610 verbal from 2nd test, combine, voila. :]

Purdue does that? Mabey I should retake mine… hmmm… nah… need to take the SAT II for placement at JMU.

I got an 1120 on the SAT I when I took it at the end of my Junior year.

I got a 31 on the ACT, which is the equivalent of a 1400, two weeks after the SAT I.

I STRONGLY urge anyone with low SAT scores, and really, anyone in general, to try the ACT. I found it to be much, much easier.

Havnt taken my SATs yet, but I scored well on my PSATs. Pity Ill prolly have to take the new SATs(with the essay, and out of 2400 instead of 1600).

this yr i scored a 1250 (700 on math, and 550 on verbal) yeah i really need to boost up my vocab. but i’m only a freshman… or going to be a sophmore, so i still have time  hey do you guys have any tips when it comes to taking the SATs? my only advice is guess 2 times per section… those guesses dont include the ones where you do trial of elimination. that n have a clear mind

Never took it…

1300 on my first try, but i’m aiming for at least a 1350 next time - scholarship reasons.

some advice for everybody:

VOCAB IS KEY FOR THE VERBAL!!!
the verbal section is fairly easy if you know all the words your dealing with. the problem is, you often don’t. studay vocab, it will make a huge difference.

also, TAKE A PRIVATE TUTORING COURSE!!! i went to Huntington Learning Center and boosted my score by a ton. when i first took the SAT there for practice i only got an 1180, and when i took it for real i had improved 120 points!!! don’t take a group lesson, you need to work on the areas where you need to improve. private tutoring will send your score shooting up.

I think the real thing to keep in mind - and most colleges are nowadays (unless we’re talking private, ivy league, etc.) is that the SAT is a 3 1/2 hour test given on one day, and somehow it’s supposed to measure your reasoning ability. The current SAT is becoming less and less credible, so that’s why it’s being changed - however, I don’t see how an additional writing section will change this.

The SAT is really different for everyone, and many times you’re not even trying to find the correct answer, but their (ETS’s) correct answer. That’s why I don’t like the SAT.

I took it at the end of my Sophomore year and I received a 1310. However, I will be re-taking it in October, and I’m thinking I’ll get at least a 1400.

Way back in the 1996-97 school year, I scored 1570, 770 verbal, 800 math.

I’ve done a lot of private tutoring for the SATs, and the biggest thing you can do one year in advance of the test is READ. Go to the library, pick up some books and read them. Your score will shoot up, trust me.

There’s an added bonus as well. Reading is actually fun. Imagine that, improving your chances at going to college, and having fun at the same time. Who knew…

Does Chief Delphi count as reading? :stuck_out_tongue: jk… I read books for pleasure all the time. Everyone should try it

Oh, and to go along with the topic of this thread, I scored 1470 on the SAT (and 34 on the ACT) when I took it 2 years ago, during my junior year.

1570 is what Ben Stein got on his SAT - i read it in a magazine  .

I got a 1410 on it my sophomore year mid year. I found that the amount of reading I do on a regular basis helped immensely.

That link was very useful. There are many tests and vocab boosters that really help out. Just browse through while you Chief Delphi, and you’ll be having twice the fun!

I agree with Ryan, the SAT is rapidly losing credibility. However, keep in mind that many scholarships have certain level SAT scores and if you want to have a better chance, a high score is a good booster in the whole deal.

I got a 1420 on the SAT I, 800 on SAT II Math IIC, 780 on SAT II Chem, and 770 on SAT II Writing (and that’s the one that I wrote the FIRST essay for! ). Nonetheless, I still think ACTs are easier… I got a 34 on that one

In one of my Kaplan books, it said they now plan on taking the SATII writing section out of the test and that most colleges dont accept it/ recognize the score.

Which is great for me, cuz im horrible with English and all that stuff.

1110, late 7th grade.

That score got me in an advanced math class called ATYP.

Look at that nice bell shaped curve.

I only took the PSAT, but that score was equivelent to a 1350 on the SAT. I opted to take the ACT instead, since that’s what most midwest schools look at, and got a 29 the second time around. Not too shabby.
