if you were invited to a post regional FRC party, what would you want at the party? All ideas will be read. Try to be reasonable.
= beverages
= snacks
= a bunch of people
= music
all I can think of at the moment
Back in 2004, 1293 played host to a bowling extravaganza with 433 and 393 (whose alliance, along with another team that couldn’t make it, made semifinals). The latter two wanted to do something, and the Firebirds invited us as well. (You have to love the Firebirds. It’s required by law.)
As we were the locals, we started calling around to see what places could hold about 40 people. (393 had a big group, while the Firebirds had a skeleton crew and we only had three people.) Most of the decent restaurants in town were jammed up by that time, so we went for the bowling alley (which also had a small arcade and a decent food stand). Everybody seemed to have a grand old time, and it only ran everyone five bucks.
I guess the moral of the story is that perfect planning isn’t required for a good time. Make sure you can get enough room at your location of choice, get something that won’t wear out a bunch of already-worn-out kids (but feel free to throw in some DDR if you’re so inclined), and make sure there’s enough responsible people there to keep people from being stupid. Oh, and enlist some locals if you aren’t from around. They won’t steer you wrong.
I’d want sleep.
Mountain Dew (a roboticist’s lifeblood), pizza, music that’s not overplayed competition music, and maybe some scifi.
A time to rest, relax, and have a good time with your friends and people from other teams is what is really wanted. Some music, but not too loud (as we have enough of that at the regionals :p), some food and drinks that are not fast food. You don’t know how good “real food” tastes after a long three-day competition. And last, but not least, creative ways for team members to unwind and relax, such as poof ball, water balloon, or snowball fights (depending on your local clime). Our team has had plenty of snowball fights.
The wrap party in Atlanta was a great example of an awesome post-competition party. Last year, some of the members of 228 (including myself) went through the entire wrap party speaking in a British accept. That’s when some people from another team came over and started recording us on their cell phones because they thought that we were really from Britain. (At least I am part British)
You just cannot beat good clean fun with your friends after a long competition.

Hahaha, that sounds like a lot of fun. I wouldn’t be able to keep a straight face.
YEAH!! Some team should host a party at nationals, I bet it would be really fun, we can have music, food, and maybe some entertainment. Sounds Fun!! I hope it happens, nothing can be better than a robotics party!
Thats what the wrap party is. After the awards Saturday in Olympic park.
Rumor starter:U2 might play the championship wrap party
A bag of fresh fruit. Like apples yum!
Some Halo 2. No teams, just every man or woman for themself!

Do not do karaoke. They did that at VCU once…
I should probably specify that it is not directly after a regional, it is two weeks after, so you will have plenty of time to rest. It is really only for local teams. Since it is well after the local regional, we were thinking an overnight lock-in in our high school. Maybe some famous faces, lots of music, lots of food. We’ve had all these ideas… so now we’re down to activities. What kinds of fun activities/entertainment would you want to see??
On another note, I’m glad to see you guys like the idea.
large lan with tournies of Doom 2 and quake 1 ! lol , CS acually
will be a great time to show video or still photos taken during the build season and the competitons - anyone have a video projector?
we have projectors at our school that we can borrow.
And as far as the suggestions for video games, such as doom and halo2… That’s kind of what we’re trying to avoid turning it into… We have plenty of LAN parties, we want something a bit different.
But the clips is a good idea, we can put together a montage of all the teams that will be there (if we have footage of them!)
I’ve always preferred comfy couches and munchies within easy reach.
How about something unique that teams can appreciate? Video games and music are great, along with munchies and the like, but how about something active… like a game of Ultimate Frisbee or Manhunt or Black-Light Volleyball? or how about a huge pit of legos and a contest to see who can make the most creative thing in 50 legos or less? the winner gets a pie to the face! except you dont tell them that until after they’ve won. or maybe find a way to teach us how to do something new and not exactly robotics related? like (please dont shoot me with a poof ball for this suggestion) ballroom dancing?
Think outside of the box.
