Whats going on with the Griffins

I was checking the teams competing at the NYC regional and noticed there was two teams from London this year. (Its very usual for team 1884 to come as they have been coming for years) I looked up the second English team (1797) and noticed they were the Griffins 2.0. For reference team 1884 is the Griffins.

After seeing that I tried to get in contact with them, with no results.

It appears that they are from the same school also.

Does anyone know what is going on with that?

This is a mistake. 1796 are the RoboTigers, and they’re based out of a high school in Long Island City, NYC.

Actually my mistake its 1797 (The Griffins 2.0).

1796 doesn’t appear to be going to NYC this year. I spoke to them at Makerfaire and they said they were trying for it as a second regional but I guess it didn’t work out.

To answer the OP’s question, based on just the information presented in the above posts, it sounds like the Griffins are starting a second team at their school. This might be a separate team for their freshman/underclassmen, like 1241’s 1285, 223’s 265, and 11’s 193. Notice how Griffins 2.0’s number, 1797, sounds to be as “old” (i.e. given out in the same year) as the Griffin’s number of 1884, similar to the teams I listed before.

Does that mean their first year they had 2 teams then they disbanded and now they are starting another team?

When you split from a veteran team into two the second takes an unused number from the first teams’ rookie year.
