So our team has 2 of the Microsoft LifeCams, but one of them still has the flexible rubber mount that came with it. What’s the best way to get the rubber mount off, or is the only way to break it?
I’ve never tried. Note that if you do remove the rubber mount in a non-reversible fashion, the camera will not be COTS, but a FABRICATED ITEM. As such, you will not be able to use the camera in future years unless the fabrication schedule changes even more than I expect.
There are screws to open up the camera and remove the mount. The prolific Troy from 330 published my favorite Webcam mount with a guide to removing the mount.
On the back of the camera, look into the slot where the rubber mount goes into the case. There’s a screw on either side of the mount. Take these out, and then you can remove the front cover. IIRC there is a microphone attached to the front cover that we usually clip off since we don’t care about sound.
Then looking at the camera from the front, with the front cover removed, locate the retaining post at the bottom center that holds the mount to the plastic case. Remove the retaining clip from the bottom of the post. Remove the screw at the lower right of the circuit board, carefully move the circuit board out of the way, and remove the post holding the mount to the case.
Then put things back together as desired.
That’s a nifty mount, thanks for the link!
