What's this about a pre-ship comp?

I heard at today’s meeting that there was a pre-ship competition in the works for the SVR teams. Does anyone have more information?

We at in the process of figuring something out. Nothing is solid, but we are planning on having an event before shipping, at Pioneer high school (big maybe). The most important part is to figure out how to put the field together, and how many teams are interested.

840 is interested for sure, and some of us might be able to go down the day before and help put the field together. Is this going to be run by the WRRF?

It will be an event organized by WRRF people, not necessary an WRRF event. Most of the WRRF board members are busy with their team, and the little people are e-mailing each other to put some strings.

The main concern is putting together the field, but if we have enough teams with parts, we will need 1 day at most to screw them together and have a functional part. The biggest concern of the field is the side bars, because not everyone have a full scale side bar.

With enough people, and budget, we can pull something together. The target date is the weekend before shipping, most likely the Saturday. We should have a place to hold it already, but we got to arrange it fast before its too late.

That’s it for now.

Hey all,

Just visited Team 481’s high school today, and talked to their advisor Eric Reed. We will be hosting a pre-ship event at De Anza high school in Richmond this year, on the Sunday before shipping, the 16th of this month.

It will be an informal competition, for teams to come and practice on the field, and have some practice matches with other teams around the bay area. 481 have a full ramp, and enough carpets around the ramp. The only things they don’t have enough are bins. So we will appeciate it a lot if teams can bring bins with them if they come. More details to come about directions to their school and what you should bring with you if you decide to come.

Please e-mail me @ [email protected] if you are interested. I do highly recommend teams participate in this, because you get more practice time, and you get to do some scouting before the competition start. Come see what other teams around the bay area are doing, and show us what your robot can do.

Hope to see all of you very soon!
