I watched some videos in YouTube, looked really fun. So when are we doing it again?
the what?
I don’t know what the falafel games are, but count me in.
Falafel Project was an alternative off-season challenge and tournament that was held in Israel between 2011-2016, very similar to OCCRA and BunnyBots. It was put together by a group of FIRST Israel alumni volunteers called “The MOST Group” (MOST stands for Mentors of Science and Technology).
This was pre-district era for Israel, and the only official events that took place those years were the Israeli Regional and the off-season (also in 2015 there was an official Week 0 event, but yeah). Falafel’s goal was to raise the level of play in Israel through giving teams another chance to run another somewhat full build and competition season, taking place in October-December.
The 1st prize for some of the late Falafel competitions - a $1000 AndyMark voucher!
Here’s the “game animation” for the 2014 challenge, “Plumbing Troubles”:
Since the narration is in Hebrew, I’ll add that the goal of the challenge was to place tubes in those low and high goals and the endgame was to hang on those rungs in the middle of the field.
Here’s the robot we (1574) built for that year’s challenge:

And, here’s one of the final matches:
MOST stopped creating new Falafel Project challenges and organizing the competitions after the 2016 season, due to burnout and other reasons.
Overall this was a really cool program, and definitely a major driving force for teams improvement before we were blessed with the district system. Now that we have districts in place and off-season events playing the official challenge, I guess Falafel is not coming back anytime soon (but I’d love to be proven wrong!)
MOST doesn’t exist anymore unfortunately, it was disbanded. I don’t see Falafel coming back unless a team takes it upon themselves
Hopefully my team will become the falafel team, i have asked the question and I’ll let you know what they said
bring me falafel with it and I’m 100% in
They said no
