Where to get news for FIRST and FRC

I am new to ChiefDelphi and relatively new to FRC, where / how do people get news and info about FRC usually? I’m trying to figure out a way to get some information about stuff happening more easily and not get overwhelmed.

If you are looking for official announcements, you can subscribe to the FIRST Blog officially on the FIRST website to get email notifications for the official announcements from FIRST. Alternativity, the blog topic here on CD, which normally has the blog a day or a couple of days before that email goes out, is also a good source.

More seriously, @ohowe is correct. The FIRST Blog is the official mouthpiece of the FIRST org. Their posts are immediately reposted here, and there is often a lot of community discussion around those official posts.

CD is the second most active forum for FIRST related information; the other is the FRC Discord server, but that is a fire hose with more speculation and memes than news most of the time. Other forums are not frequently used and have low-quality information.

90% of the time, FRC news will be on CD before any other place. Essentially, if HQ posts it, it’ll be here within an hour, and during busy times it tends to be within about 5 minutes.

OFFICIAL FRC news is only posted on the FIRST site; CD just so happens to be very quick to locate, disseminate, and discuss/digest/commentate whatever is posted there (especially game rules, game rules updates, and blog posts).

Valid, but also a quite useful fire hose. If you want to ask a quick question and get a quick answer, or have a lot of different questions, it’s a great place to get relatively correct information. Demographically it certainly skews younger just by nature of the platform (though we’ve moved out of the dark ages and the alumni population is pretty big now).

JumpingPistachio, I encourage you to add it to your arsenal of places to get FRC info! It’s a great complement to CD and the blog, which all have different (but overlapping) uses. Just stay off the subreddit, nothing useful or correct has been posted there in quite some time.

Discord link here.

This has never worked for me but the CD posts are highly reliable. (I did subscribe again just now; occasionally I keep trying the official way.)

One other source of information, but not news, is The Blue Alliance. This is a kind of one-stop-shop for event info and results and statistics, event livestreams, match videos, and team info and history. I stress again that it’s not news or official FIRST policy, but still very useful for teams, students, and mentors. You’ll notice that on your own profile here on CD, there is a link to your team’s Blue Alliance page automatically included where your team number is.

We are looking at adding a news section to FRCzero.org but there isn’t one currently. On the home page there is an important notices section right at the top (had info about the Turkiye event cancellations, emergency announcements, etc). That’s almost always a repeat of stuff from the list below though. During the season it gets updated at least weekly, but during off season there’s nothing much there. I’ll be updating it tonight for first round event preference opening now and stuff like that.

The First Inspires Blog, CD, F.U.N., FRC Reddit, FRC Discord are the order I go in for aggregating my “news feed”.

Edit: I did an update to make it more like the plan for during season now. I have Urgent FRC blog posts from first inspires listed, summarized and linked.
