I actually wrote this last year for creative writing class. I edited it to be for this year…
Twas the night before Kickoff, when all through the world
Not a creature was stirring, not a poof ball was hurled,
The manuals were downloaded by the mentors with care,
In hopes that the decryption soon would be there.
The students were nestled all snug in their bed,
While visions diamondplates danced in their heads,
And Dean in his denim, and Dave in his shirt,
Had just settled their brains for a long winter’s work…
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
They sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to their computers they flew like a flash,
Checking everything, even the scoring by hatch.
The stage was all set for tomorrows big show,
As though of their playing field to objects below,
When, what to Daves wondering eyes should appear,
But three hundred new posts, they hacked the game this year,
But Dave and Dean, so lively and quick,
Knew in a moment what they needed to fix
More rapid than eagles they covered the traces,
Dean whistled, and shouted, and took time to update dave’s myspaces:
The password came out to early! I gave the wrong date!
Dave shouted back, no we just didn’t want to be late!"
So up to the College in the helicopter they flew,
With the Bill of Materials, and a new game too.
And then, in a twinkling, I heard outside the door
Hundreds of students that can’t wait anymore.
As Dave drew 5s in the air the kids heads spun around around,
With only 5 hours left they were kick-off bound.
Dean was dressed all in Denim, from his head to his foot,
Dave’s Hawaiian shirt was grey like soot.
A bundle of poof balls he had flung on his back,
Ready with his special dodgeball attack.
Deans eyes – how they twinkled – his dimples how merry!
Dave’s cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
Their droll little mouths were drawn up like a bows
After all, they know what everyone else wants to know.
The secret of kickoff held behind their tight teeth
No one would know that were using the pool beneath.
With Krispy Kreames in his little round belly
Dave shook, when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly.
He would soon know what would be bought off the shelves,
And I laughed when he thought of the stock bought by himself.
A wink of Dean’s eye and a twist of his head
Soon we would know we had nothing to dread.
He spoke not a word, and started the show,
And to let us all know what we wanted to know,
Dave pointed his finger to the banana in his breast pocket,
And broke into NASA’s stock footage of rockets.
Teams sprang to their feet with cheers and shout!
For in a few moments the new game would be out.
But that is tomorrow and this is tonight.
“Happy Kickoff to all, and to all a good luck sleeping night!”
