-Just another day at the office!
Pigs definitely can fly. They just have trouble making the reservationsâŚ
OK, is that pig on the inside or the OUTside? Iâd think itâd break the glass upon impactâŚ:rolleyes:
Haha! Definitely on the inside just propped up against the center windshield. As far as breaking the glass on impact - I donât know- The glass is fairly thick and as someone whoâs had to beat one out with a chalk (window removal - non-preferred method) I can vouch for how tough these things are (although arcing in the NESA system can cause de lamination which can cause localized weak spots) and heating them up too quickly certainly can cause them to crack. Other than that they take a bit of abuse before breaking.
âŚStay tuned to see where Pigasus ends up (oddly enough the airfield we are operating out of this time of year isâŚPegasus).
I wish I had that much time to skrew around
What kind of plane is that? Is it an airliner?
Bacon always knew pigs could fly, but that is a really cool way to do it!

At AGO-3 - 9760 feet with the worlds largest snow mobile. -31C with 30+ Knot winds. (windchill of -60F = Frostbite on exposed skin in less than 5 minutes).
Hey Machman, Sure youâve heard this one:
A couple of F-15âs are escorting a C-130 Hercules, and their pilots are chatting with the pilot of the transport to pass the time. Talk comes âround to the relative merits of their respective aircraft. Of course the fighter pilots contend that their airplanes were better because of their superior speed, maneuverability, weaponry, and so forth, while theyâre putting down the Hercâs deficiencies in these areas.
After taking this for a while, the C-130 pilot says, âOh yeah? Well, I can do a few things in this old girl that youâd only dream about.â Naturally, the fighter jocks challenge him to demonstrate.
âJust watch,â comes the quick retort.
And so they watch. But all they see is that C-130 continuing to fly straight and levelâŚ
After several minutes the Herc pilot comes back on the air, saying âThere! How was that?â
Not having seen anything, the fighter pilots reply, âWhat are you talking about? What did you do?â
And the Herc pilot replies, âWell, I got up, stretched my legs, got a cup of coffee, then went back an took a leak.â
The Pigasus has already made it to the South Pole but no time for pictures on those runs yet.
Stay TunedâŚ
Well, I know they are tested for bird strikes, but for pig strikes?? A big hog can go a few hundred pounds. And if pigs can flyâŚ
PS: Cool photo.

oh yes, only in a Herc can you do that! The C-130 is a great plane, an absolute classic, especialy if you consider thar over 2000 Hurcs have been builtâŚ
btw, what c-130 modle it that? the C-130H? or C-130J?
LC-130 H2/H3 (L1/L2) and modernized Navy R Models (L1A).
The Pigasus has made it to:
WAIS Divide (S79 29.00 W119.35.00) Elev. 5920 Ft.
South Pole Station (S90 00.00 W180 00.00) Elev. 9280 Ft.
AGO 3 (S82 45.30 W028 35.34) Elev. 9790 Ft.
First Herk flew in 54â (prototype- Lockheed Skunkworks), and has evolved into one of the most reliable, versatile airframes to date logging more than 20 million flight hours.
âŚDonât get me started on the J model (Hey Lockheed - ever feel like you took a few steps backward!) Weâll see what the future is - we have been flight testing the 8 Bladed props, new electronic valve housings, and soon Allison-Rolls Royce will be releasing the new T56 3.5 Ceramic turbine Mod - even comes with a slightly redesigned compressor inlet housing (with coating) (AR AR AR AR - Tim âThe Toolmanâ Taylor Grunting)
We might grow âupâ, but all that means is our toys get bigger!
yea, im not a big fan of the J modle, the bay was tweaked in, well, not the best ways. I didnât know that the Hurk was made in the Skunk works, did Kelly Johnson head the program?
Willis Hawkings was the lead designer. Kelly Johnson was chief engineer at Lockheed at the time. During the development of the 130 he advanced to VP of R&D, then on to VP of Advanced Development Projects(Which would soon garner the nickname skunk works - due to itâs proximity to a plastics factory). So I guess it isnât accurate to say it was designed by Skunk Works, it was designed partly (and signed off on - reluctantly) by KJ and the VP of Lockheed. Guess KJ preferred Fast planes that could be armed (he thought that the L-206 (soon dedicated model 82) would destroy Lockheed - guess he called that wrong).
KJ did some awe-inspiring stuff. Take the SR-71 for example, which has to be his greatest achievement. Nothing was known about flying at 3.5 times the speed of sound, and the engines, they change from a turbojet to a ramjet IN FLIGHT! The Blackbird is an amazing aircraft. Also, the P-80, U-2, and many, many other aircraft have come out of Palmdale.
Pigasus at the Ceremonial South Pole:

and at the Geographic South Pole:

It was a fairly warm -38C.
Bacon grease can be chemically refined to be suitable for jet fuel. Pigs fly, just dead pigs.
nice! I didnât know that there was a ceremonial South PoleâŚ
There is also a Geomagnetic South Pole. But enough talk about cold, Pigasus has already flown the coupe north to Christchurch, Nz, and now is currently in Pago Pago, AS. And you thought your commute was long. Tomorrow its on to Hawaii. Clearly, Pigasus lives a tough life.
agreed
so, any updates on Pigasus? where is it now?
The Pigasus is currently competing at FLR @ RIT! Game on! lots of travels to come.
