Why is CAN between PDP and RIO required?

Just curious but why do the rules mandate this? What purpose does it serve?

The roboRIO collects sensor data from the PDP which is forwarded to your Driver Station where it is recorded in the Driver Station logs-you can go look at it.
It’s quite invaluable in debugging some types of issues.
