Hey I’ve just finished making these two logos and am wondering what people think? :yikes:
I dont think they are going to like the alpha effect that you added to the logo.
I like it though.
Yes I’m worried about the alpha effect and I’ve sent an email to FIRST regarding it. Glad you like the logo
Yes, unfortunately, however good they look, they violate the FIRST logo standards. The color effect behind the logo and using the logo as part of a sentence are not allowed.
I’m curious, what are you planning on using these for?
From an aesthetic viewpoint, they look very good. I would only suggest a bit of tweaking in order to make the first logo a little more distinctive, with the ambient lighting toned down a bit. To me, it almost looks like the logo is overshadowed. That’s just my opinion, though.
I want to spread the word of FIRST, thus I’m creating whyfirst.com which will be spread all over the internet. My goal is to get 500 unique visits a month thus I’m showing what FIRST is to about 250 people (apx.) a month It’s a general information site basically telling people how great first is
It’s very eye pleasing. Did you Photoshop it, GIMP, or some other image editor? I’m interesting in seeing the layers and what not of how you created it.
The logo isn’t very unique at all. It’s just the FIRST logo with a background. I would suggest actually creating a logo of your own and use the FIRST logo on your website.
I would suggest being more ambitious, our team site achieves this in about a week (during the FIRST season). A community website should be able to do better.
GIMP! Somewhat following thus tutorial: Splash Screen: Create a colorful stream of light with particles — Tutorials — gimpusers.com
Those a pretty sick. When they judge your website though, that will probably make you loose points instead of even getting none for it. Good work though.
I like the colors but you should really make your gradient a lot smoother with more steps in between colors. Also, yes I agree with Ryan.
Also, regarding the logo, make sure you remind Dean that on his company’s website, he is violating his own rules on the presentation of the logo.
It looks like the website hasn’t been well-maintained in a bit.
Seriously be more ambitious like their website… Instead of being a entrepreneur and learning about web design and how to make code and design your own site, just go and copy code from a stock source, install it on your domain, and add some colorful effects that make it look like you made it… That is so much better! I think FIRST is all about learning things, and creating things from your own thoughts and learning how to do so. In that sense I am going to have to graciously disagree with this statement. Sorry for the factitious statement, but when you make fun of a students site and become cocky about how good your site is, only to find out that yours is just copied code that you really didn’t make but just installed, makes me really irritated. Sorry. Good luck with your site man, all you can do is learn, and it is great to learn the basics. Don’t be lured into installing stock code just because it is the easy way out. If you check out our forums on our site, sure they are not the best, but they are in house coded, along with the admin panels, by students that learned SO much about programming in html, web design, and everything else involved, sure it is taking longer, but it is worth the time. In our case, time is knowledge, and I love that fact. Have fun with your site… Learn, it is so worth it… If you need anything, feel free to PM me and I will try my best to help you out. Good Luck.
I want to apologize for my post above. It was a bit harsh and too critical.
I understand your comments about my post above. Cockyness and arrogance are two characteristics that stand out to me as well as I re-read it (can’t edit it now). However, in everything I do, I always try to maintain humility. Your comments about our site, on the other hand, are just incorrect:
I am an entrepreneur and I have learned how to design and code a website. My ThemeForest portfolio should speak for itself.
Our site is anything but just copied code. Both the MediaWiki and phpBB systems are extensively modified for our purposes. Not to mention, we develop a new design every year and implement it into the site/forum. Our website team (particularly Quentin Sheets) also developed the FIRST Chat scouting database which isn’t even close to copied code.
basicxman:
Once again, sorry for my earlier post. I hope you (basicxman) to keep up the good work and continue working in GIMP. However, like most others in this thread said, try to stay away from using the FIRST logo within your own.
Well put, good job on your journey both of you, and good luck…
