Wildcard generation confusion

During the Ventura regional, multiple wildcards were generated for 4414 (winner at Port H and Ventura) and 359 (Winner of Ventura, Chairmans at Ventura, and HoF qual). From what I understood of the wildcard generation, this would of generated 3 wildcards (Chairmans, alliance winner, alliance first pick), but from the awards footage, only the first two teams were given wildcards, with 359’s wildcard specifically mentioning only the fact that they are a HoF team. I see nothing in the wildcard “rules” (theres nothing actually in the manual) on why only 2 were generated in this instance. Is there something not in here that im not aware of?

Because of the 10 year rule for HoF qualification, 359 didn’t actually have a HoF Qualification (That page shows the list of HoF qualified teams). Which means that one of their invitations was actually used by them, and only 2 wild cards would be generated.

359 was registered for Houston as early as January 5th, so i dont think that is the case.

If I had to guess, they were picked as an alternate (Which the Pre-Qualifying Teams section also specifies), but the system only uses the original listed teams for wildcard generation.

Unfortunate that we missed out on the ticket to Houston because of the apparent new wildcard rules this year.

The FTA explained that 1 of the 2 Wildcards generated by 359 got burned.

We’ll be following up with FIRST just in case, but we have work to do regardless to be better prepared for Central Valley week 5!

From Championship Eligibility Criteria | FIRST :

If a team at a Regional earned a FIRST Championship spot prior to the Regional and then wins the Chairman’s Award, Engineering Inspiration Award, or is the Winning Alliance’s Captain or 1st Pick at that Regional or is already a Pre-Qualifying team, it generates a Wild Card

I read this as a team that is already qualified before the event can only generate 1 wild card maximum, which would align with what happened at the event.

Qualifying multiple times at the same event doesn’t on its own generate a wild card this year

Also, wildcards are not yet shown on the frc-events awards page (or in the API) like they have in previous years, making determining actual wildcard winners harder. Hopefully they fix this soon to help clear up the confusion

So… jk on this apparently.

3512 is heading to Houston after all!

Were the wildcards correctly assigned at Midwest? Two Wildcards were generated (2338 and 111 won and were already qualified) and were given to the finalist alliance 2nd pick (2022) and backup (3488) since the captain (1732) and 1st pick (2451) were already qualified. However, shouldn’t they have gone to the winners 2nd pick (8122) and rookie all star (8868)?

Incorrectly assigned, they used the 2020 method. They were on the phone earlier with HQ sorting it out.

This also happened at Seven Rivers where the FMS thought that RAS was a prequalifier and generate a wild card. FMS is broken, and no matter what HQ says they have obviously not fixed it. It’s especially cruel because of the tease of going to champs. These teams receive the ‘pay us 5k NOW’ email on Sunday and a ‘hahah lol JK’ email on Monday. Totally uncool and really upsetting that this known issue continues to persist.
