I find it to be much better. I really like what they did to it. It’s odd though because I’m so used to the old version of it! But all in all it is nice. =D It’s pretty quick to burn CDs and plays my CDs very well (even scratched ones)! And whenever I open a video to watch, it’s always in great quality. In the other WMP, it wasn’t too good a picture. It got much better! =D
I have to agree with 9/10th’s of what you said (all except the scratched CD part, since I don’t really play CD’s on this computer anyways).
The videos are in greater quality, and now it ain’t half-color & half-black&white. It’s also great being able to hear “American Idiot” & seeing it in great quality cheap plug for the fun of it
The audio is also a lot crisper IMO also.
I’ve never used WMP to burn CD’s, but it’s also been great for ripping CD’s. It’s even fast on my ol’ Intel Celeron 500 MHz; 64 MB RAM computer in my room.
i have had trouble with it, it dosnet like my mp3 player. but i like the fact that the file sizes have changed. i used to be able to get only 1.5 hours of 64 kbps on my mp3 player an now i get a litel over 2 hours. so i think that there is a new file format.
I seriosly liked version 6(?) better… It was just a simple player and it let you open multiple files at once to let them load from internet sites while you go about doing something else.
Then again, with all my players I liked the old versions a heck of a lot better than the new one’s.
Real Player = Good until they decided to upgrade and be called Real One Player.
Quicktime = Well… it’s an apple product so… But it’s ok at my current version of the 2004 light. (Upgrade?? why??)
Winamp = I still have the best version on my computer. (2.77 or so) The new one sux. All I use Winamp for is for my mp3’s not videos.
Windows Media Player = Currently I am stuck with version 8. It has that new bad looking inteface and it sucks. No one button hot keys for play and pause, and just way too much of a media player for how I use it.
Bottom line. The new features on these media players I can do without.
Only thing I don’t like about that version (7) is that it didn’t allow playlists, so it’d get annoying during robotics season.
It was pretty good back in the day. Streaming was a pain sometimes, but it did get better. I personally feel like ROP is trying to hard to mimmick the compeitition.
Never got into QT really. Only reason why I’ve ever used it is to play some South Park clips I got, which are in QT format.
The 2.xx versions were great really. The new ones have to many bells & whistles for my liking, so that’s why I migrated back over to WMP 10.
This saying might not exactly work for this situation, but I think someone who proclaims “I do not know everything about something, I just know something about everything” works here. Reason being is that all the players try to support the mass population with their product, not just a single person. That’s where programming your own becomes fun
@JoesphM: I can’t really tell the difference, but that’s just me.
I like WMP 10 over the previous versions. I was sold on it from the beta product. Microsoft put a lot of thought into it. Really overall I find it to be the best media player.
iTunes is not bad but can’t compete with it for features. I like the music store in iTunes good for linking between artist you like and artist you don’t know you like. I like iTunes organization of files, and it is fairly good at ripping CDs. I don’t think it syncs well with players other than the ipod and it put the annoying ipodhelper/itunehelper.exes in your tasklist regardless if you have an ipod or are running itunes. Was cool in the dorms because of the ability to share and play over a network.
Winamp is good for audiophiles. Seems to be the best audio player of the big names. Could do without its video. Options are more confusing than some of the others. Doesn’t sync well.
ROP - Use classic media player instead. Real doesn’t serve its purpose well (streaming media). I can’t see someone falling in love with it for a media player. Plus I could never figure how to watch multiple streams for robots. Classic media player I had four streams open.
Musicmatch- only one that syncs my mp3s. I had trouble with setting up the new one and it just really isn’t my style of player. Not bad sounding for a player and probably falls somewhere behind winamp in my music players.
WMP 10 - The best choice to simplify to one media player. You can say they copies itunes but only with the skin style. They’ve worked on their searching, not as good iTunes. Covers largest ranges of mp3 player syncing, file formats, nice new tabs for moving around. Still not as good as I would like but better. A wide range of stores to look at from walmart to musicnow.
It’s not perfect for me but it’s ahead of the competition for now. If iTunes became a full player they might compete. But they aren’t. I don’t really like quicktime, no I don’t want to go pro.
