Is anybody following this playoff matchup? I sure as heck am, being from a suburb 30 minutes from detroit, so I’m obligated. GO WINGS! We stomped the Avs today in game one, 5 to 3, McCarty was able to score 3 goals, achieving his first ever hat trick!
“The Red Wings spent their day off filling out Social Security forms and restocking their metamucil. Yes its another typical day off for the Detroit Red Wings.”
If by some way that travesty of a team wins this year, you know that many of them will be retiring, and Typical Detroit will spend another 40 years or so rebuilding so they can even have a remote chance of winning…
i’m ignoring most of this post, cause apparently some peoples’ brains were fried at Nationals, because they are cheering for the Red Wings.
Did anyone read the interview about how the Wings are “anything but cocky”
HAHAHHA YEAH RIGHT!#@!
Then they went on to say how Roy is amazing and how the Avalanche are the most respected team in the NHL by the Red Wing players…at least they have some things right.
The NHL playoffs would not be the same if the Avalanche and the Red Wings didn’t play each other. That said, to all you Red Wings Fans (myself included): Be careful! Be very Careful! Not too long ago the Wings were up 2 games to 0 and lost 4 straight! Colorado makes me very nervous and Roy will always have 1 bad game against Detroit. Personally, I think Roy played a great game until McCarty got in his head. Also remember that any player who can miss the whole season and then dominate in the playoffs like Forsberg can, is a force to be reckoned with.
Now, all you Avalanche fans: The Red Wings are the team to beat this year! If you can’t see that, then you are blinded by ego, or you just don’t really follow hockey. The Wings may have many older players, but they are still skating circles around most of the younger players in the league.
And to all you Illinois and Indiana people cheering for the Avalanche: Shame on you!!
Anyway, my pick is Detroit in 7 games and 3 of the games will be O.T.

Shame? How…im a proud avalanche Fan
Long Live the Midwestern Avalanche Fans!!!
Even if Colorado loses this year, they will be a top contender for years to come, once Detroit’s old men retire soon, they will be the laughing stock of the NHL for years to come…
Oh young D.J. Your lack of hockey knowledge is showing. True, The wings stacked the team full of older greats this year. However, the Red Wing’s farm club is one of the most extensive in all of the NHL. Take Mattieu Dandenau, Sean Avery, and Jason Williams … they are all from the Red Wings farm system. Avery isn’t even playing in the playoffs, but he is good (a little scrapper, too). Also, free agents are going to come flocking to the Wings. When Hasek retires, Curtis Joseph will probably come here next year (I’ll even bet on that one), and other free agents will, too.
One more thing, Roy has been playing in the league 18 years; he will retire in the years to come; Sakic will hang it up when Yzerman does. Igor Larionov (oldest guy in the league) has been less of an impact this year and the Wings really won’t miss him that much. Robataille and Hull were only gap fillers (great gap fillers) until the younger farm club players come of age.
I admitt that the wings do have the best defence right now, but they are fairly old, and there arent that many decent defencemen comming up from the NCAA or the farm teams…
The NHL will have a defenceman shortage in the next few years
Plus: Im not too impressed with most Farm Clubs
Except the Hershey Bears…and a few others
Cinncinnati usually has a good club, along with the Manitoba Moose Club, and im sure im forgetting others
Example:
Brent Gretzky, yes the nephew of the great one. He was supposedly supposed to be as good or better than his Uncle, but he has been around for many years in the farm club and has been really quiet…
