Wins for the Week 12-18-2020

The school switched accounting systems and we were missing $16,000. We got the details worked out thanks to the athletics/activities office and our money is back in our account!

This morning our programmer took it a step further and is making great progress.

Intaking and Shooting

Although this offseason was a lot different with a new workshop location (my house) and a 3 student limit for each meeting, it has been one of our best offseason experiences. Proud of all the students involved.

Ever have one of those wins you can’t really share, yet? Can’t wait to talk about it… lots of good things happening. :grinning:

Also, our second FTC remote meet is underway after the first one actually went pretty well (18 teams competed, most of them shared their match video, and we had a good highlights and score reveal show). I’m glad to see the teams are having a good time and keeping their spirits up despite the circumstances. All the feedback has been positive on these events so far. Maybe one day we’ll get to see each other in person, again!

All the time, also a few that I just don’t like sharing publicly.

I will say, some of the last few weeks have been rough so forcing myself to come up with wins has been super helpful.

Best wishes on that - I hope things improve for you on that front. The last few months have been like that for me, before some good things that last 2-3 weeks. Pushing through the rough patches always makes the good times feel so much sweeter.

Accepted to WPI!
and deferred from MIT, but that’s still a win to me

Ditto and ditto! I expected to be deferred (and the suspense is going to be painful) but it’s nice to know MIT believes you’re qualified for their school.

Haha, nice! Pi Day will be here before we know it, so keep calm and carry on

So cool! How many mini robots do you have?

Probably too many.

Here’s a playlist of most of them. There are a couple that haven’t been finished/filmed but make appearances in some of the videos.

Cut a new release for the automation solution I architect-ed from the ground up to perform mass parallelized start/stop of our 50+ distributed microservices. So my co-workers finally get to use the plethora of new features I’ve been teasing them with for the last like 3 months.

I also now get two weeks off work! Hopefully the previously stated software release doesn’t impact that too much. lol.

Last night, my wife and I watched a virtual Christmas Concert by Houston Grand Opera. One of the most enjoyable pieces was “Mr. Grinch” sung by three basses and bass-baritones.

Today, I got caught up on sleep then did a workout. Afterward, I got a quesadilla at a recently opened food trailer. On the way home, I noticed the macaron store was still open so I got some new flavours to try (eggnog creme brulee, churro, black sesame and rum and caramel) :yum:

Our programmers have had unbridled access to our robot, testing different parts of our scoring/shooting program. They have giddy with all of this time.

Apparently I’ve caught on to camera operating so well since I joined my church’s production team that I was asked by name to be 2nd camera operator for our livestream Christmas Eve service.

Got basic scripting in KiCAD to automate tedious work in board design working! Now I can automagically place my keyboard parts to make my life easier. Still very WIP but yeah!
