Wiring for Lifter

Hello!

We’re working on our lifter and we need to design a way to maintain the wires organized. The wires need to reach up and move with the lifter as it goes up and down. We were wondering how other teams maintained the wires as they moved. We have wire management cables, but are looking for creative ways to effectively collapse the wires on each other and prevent them from getting tangled with other components.

Thanks,

My recommendation is drag chain. It’s been used in all sorts of similar applications (3D printers, CNC, etc.), and is a good way to keep wires safe as they move around your robot. Plus, you can make the chains as long or as short as you need, and they come in all sorts of different sizes.

Seconded. 4513 used this in 2015 to great success.

My preferred tool is Igus cable chain; I bet it’s the most-used thing out of the Igus bag, and if your team is anything like mine you’ve amassed a LOT of Igus bags that sit and collect dust. I remember 233 created a really cool pulley that let them pull their cable chain taut using a little surgical tubing, enough to prevent any slack from flapping out loosely. Probably their 2007 machine, I think.

We do have some drag chain we’re trying to use, but the challenge for us is figuring out how to mount it with our design. Do you have any pictures/videos of 4513 with them we could see?

See if these help at all. Our photos from 2015 are a little sparse so this seems to be the best i can find.

Thirded!
