Using Indiana as an example, we would probably have a district championship of around 32 teams and qualify 8 teams for Championship. 3 district champ winners, 1 Chairman’s, 2 Engineering Inspiration, 1 Rookie All-Star, 1 off of district points.
I took only the first 2 events per team, if a team only attended one event, I multiplied their score by 2.
Looks like the top 6 teams would have qualified either way. Of the next 3 highest points, 2 should have made it on points if there was a rookie team qualified by inspiration.
So there is a little discrepancy from regionals to districts in your area.
I think boiling it down to “the top 6 teams would have qualified either way” oversimplifies things.
What this view doesn’t show is the teams who played a 3rd Regional and got much better, who would move way up in the rankings at District Champs (I’m talking about 930, but I’m sure there are others).
It doesn’t show how 1-event teams could move significantly up or down after another qualifier and DCMP, especially with all the extra matches to work on improvements.
In general, DCMP has double the point value of qualifiers, so the top 30-40ish teams on this list that didn’t get a rare World Champs berth at a Regional could advance to DCMP and have a bigger stage to prove out their hard work and face a fairer advancement structure.
Third plays don’t count in the district model. In your first post you stated that one event players are doubled. In FiM the DCMP points are tripled.
Our team has qualified for MI States, we did much better in out 1st event then our 2nd in terms of points. We are currently 42nd in the state out of 420ish teams. We could have been been 31st if we declined the 3rd alliance at our second event, (stuff happens).
Yes we have an opportunity to show our teams improvement at FiM states, and hopefully we will, but there are no guarantees. I think (expect) our team to earn enough points at MSC to qualify for Worlds.
DCMP is a great thing if you are able to attend IMHO. It allows team members to see what other teams are doing close up. If they take the time to look and see. I have seen the spark that lights up in some of our team members. Worlds can have the same effect of lighting up team members, we have been there twice.
Worlds can also be disheartening. Being ranked 19th and not be selected for playoffs, as an example, mecanum drive. Just being there is also a great thing though if you take the time to look and learn.
