Woodie Flowers Nominations

Does anyone know if a Woodie Flowers Award nomination has to come from someone on the potential honoree’s team? I’d like to nominate a mentor who I worked with in the past, but is now on a different team. Can I do this?

Also, if anyone has any advice for WF nominations (cough DJ cough), please let me know. Thanks!

Keep in mind that my word is not official on this, but I can give you some input.

My opinion is taken from how the entry process has happened in the past. The process may slightly change for this coming year, since the “Finalist” level has been added.

The Woodie Flowers award celebrates effective communication not only by the nominated person (the mentor), but also by the student(s) whe write the entry. It is the intent of Dr. William Murphy, the founder of the award, to equally weigh the written entry with the nominee’s effort, inspiration, spirit, and ability to communicate.

The entry must be written and coordinated by high school student(s) who nominate an adult on their team.

For instance, DJ coordinated the effort to nominate me, but he had alot of help from people outside of the TechnoKats. So, in your case, Jeff, you need to encourage a student on the “different team” to coordinate the effort and write the essay, with your help and guidance. I see no problem with you giving them input on what to write and proofing their work.

… but this is just my opinion.
