Imagine with this year’s format if we would have used the regionals as qualifiers for the Nationals!

Imagine if the top 8 from each regional got to pick an alliance partner to bring with them. Then the Nationals could be one large best 2-out-of-3 double elimination competition (four matches guaranteed).

Would you want the top 8 to have the right to pick anyone from any regional or would it be better if they had to stick with whomever they chose as their partner at the regionals?
I would like to hear others opinions on this.

And since there were 7 regionals, imagine if there could also be 8 wildcard alliances allowed into the nationals.
How would we pick these wildcard teams? Maybe based on some award given at the regionals

Imagine that each team was allowed spend 1 week during the time between the regional and nationals working with your allinace partner to help each other optimize their robots.
What do you think of this?

It is my speculation that this is the direction it is heading. I think that only letting 8 alliances into the eliminations is step one of getting everyone used to the thought of not being in a portion of the competition.

Everybody should go to EPCOT, so I’d only favor such a plan if day#1 at Disney was treated as the 8th regional and everybody then had the chance to make it into the 64-team final elimination tournament.

Mike,

I agree that the ideal set up would allow “everybody” to go to Epcot. However, if the growth trend continues, it just will not be possible to accommodate everybody.

BTW, thanks for adding the “it” in my title
