Xbox 360 sticking issues

Our xbox 360 controller that came in the KOP is having issues with both analog sticks not returning to the center position, instead returning slightly off center. Is there any way to fix this? Our controller is brand new.

(Assuming that this is a problem of the stick not returning to center software wise and not physically)
This problem came up once while we were testing our robot, but thank god someone noticed this on the dashboard before we enabled anything. First, you want to make sure that the driver station application is updated and that any necessary drivers for the controller are installed on the computer or laptop that you are running the driver station off of. Then, I would suggest to…

  1. Unplugging and plugging the USB back in and seeing if that fixes the issue.
  2. Plugging the USB into a different USB port
  3. Restarting the driver station application
  4. Restarting the computer or laptop that the driver station is running on
  5. If all else fails, see if a different controller yields the same results

We have a Logitech controller that we use for driving that has a Xbox and Play Station mode on the back of it, I’m not sure about the controller that you have, but I would check to see if there is a switch to change modes on the controller and seeing if that fixes anything as well. Good luck!

The short answer is, that’s just what the xbox joysticks do.

The Logitech F310 is much better, we no longer use Xbox joysticks because they do not return to center well and it really bothered us.

In general, the Xbox has far less spring force on the joysticks and triggers than the Logitech gamepad. This makes the Xbox a bit easier on your thumbs for long periods, but that doesn’t really matter for the FRC use case.

Agreed. Unfortunately our F310 went missing and we are kind of stuck with the xbox controller for now.

Xbox One controllers are actually MUCH better. We switched to them this year, and the deadzone is basically non existent, and they feel much better then the 360 controllers did. We switched completely to them this year.

We implement a dead zone. If the reading is less than x, it is considered 0

Can you post details to the Xbox One controller you decided on?
