Ok well team 1516 was wondering if we would want to use an XBOX 360 controller. what would we have to buy or do in order to hook that up. bc i have seen some teams in the past using that (team 100) and i play way to much video games and i was going to be our driver. i would be very happy if someone would help me out on my quest to a fun time.
You need:
A USB Chicklet
A wired Xbox 360 controller
The Xbox 360 controller (and the orginal Xbox controller) is supported by the chicklet. I am not sold on small thumbsticks to drive the robot, but I like the Xbox controller for the operator (secondary) driver.
two joysticks for driving. best plan there is
i wired up an NES controller for the operator this year
yes, use the UBS chicklet (link above). we used it last year, and we plan on using it again this year!
you can either use both joysticks and 4 buttons, one joystick and more buttons, or…well, just read the manual. it explains everything. just remember that at the competition it has to be powered by a separate battery. the best way is to buy another backup battery and splice on a pluggy thingy to power it.
The chicklet comes with a solder-on 2.1mm coax connector for the backup battery. It is not too difficult to make a backup battery (2 pin molex) to 2.1mm converter out of the IFI backup battery adapter used on the RC. You can buy the adapter for $2.50 on IFI’s website, use an old one, or make one if you have the parts & tools.
There should be no need to splice backup battery wires and existing 2.1mm coax connectors. It would be difficult to charge a backup battery with a coax connector.
