Brandon. I noticed that F.I.R.S.T. has a new process for asking questions and answers.
We are being told to link to Yahoo.com/group/blah/blah/blah. I was wondering if you could get a direct link through Chief Delphi to this site. Im asking because I have a terrible time with Yahoo and am constantly crashing my computer because of it. Last year when my son loaded Yahoo it crashed the system big time. I had to have the hard drives re-instaled.
We had no problems untill my son again re-instaled Yahoo and the whole system again crashed. For some reason Yahoo dont like us or my putter system dont like Yahoo. Can you think of some thing to help here as I cant afford another crash or another putter.
Has any one else had problems with Yahoo on their systems???
Thank you
Nick237
there shouldn’t be anything to install
i thought they were just using a yahoo mailing list?
The only thing that you need to be able to access the the new forum is a yahoo account. There are many different ways to get a yahoo account, one of which is to sign up with and download yahoo messenger (which sounds like what your son did).
The direct link is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FRCtech2002/
If you already a yahoo account, such as through yahoo mail or messenger, you can click the join this group button and sign in. If you don’t have an account, when you click the join this group button, it gives you the option of creating a yahoo account.
There is also a way to join by sending an e-mail to [email protected] I have not tried this, so I don’t know if you also need a yahoo account if you do it this way.
Joe-Ross, Thats exactly the problem that I want to avoid, I dont wish to be connected to Yahoo for the reasons stated above. I think its some thing to do with the Phone company that we have in the area that we have to use.
I might be able to post questions but I wont be able to read the answers unless I sign up.
Since I dumped Yahoo from my system I have not had any problems.
Thanks for the imput though…

all of the questions & answers come via email.
signing up for a yahoo account doesn’t involve installing any of their software (messenger, etc)
like joe said, if you send an email to:
you should be put on the list, and receive all communication via email. (no yahoo! stuff involved)
Nick,
The Robot Chicks Union has been using YahooGroups since its conception in July of 2000 (thats back when it was still called eGroups ). Sure we’ve had some specific bugs to work out, but all 170 members seem to deal with it fine.
If you still have issues with it, bring it to the meeting and I’ll have a look-see.

OK I tried and the wizard thingy came up. It wants to know my incoming and out going server name. I tried FRED, JACK, WALLY and OSAMA but none worked. I have no clue what my servers names are and I cant go any further.
Then my putter froze and I had to re-boot. This what used to happen the last time.
I have a pentium is that the name they are looking for, I dont want to try again as I dont want to freeze up and have to re boot.
Should have paid more attention in school during computer classes, OH Thats right when I went to School we only had the Abacus systems. Ah well time to take some lessons from our great students out there. H E L P

Most likely, it’s looking for the incoming and outgoing mail server names for your ISP. You’re going to have to get that information from them(Incoming=POP3 or IMAP, outgoing=SMTP)

At this point you’re beyond help because you refuse to listen to the help others are providing. Joe Ross said you don’t have to install Yahoo chat/messenger/anything. All you need is a web browser. If other applications are starting, you’re doing something wrong.
Go to the link Joe posted. Click on ‘Join group.’ If you already have a yahoo account, log in. If not you can create one. That’s all there is to it. If you don’t understand what I just wrote, read Joe’s message, he said the same thing.
Mike
If you’re having that much trouble with it, just ask one of us here to make if for you! I’m sure that someone can do that for you.
Chill, guys. Problem solved (I hope) at 237’s last meeting.

Some very cleaver students hooked me up from one of the computers at the school. It was interesting to see the first conection to Yahoo was the version to England??? Could have been worse, could have been the version from Japan Yahoosan.
Sorry I didnt make my self clear Mike, I should have said that I was having trouble down loading Yahoo and that it was destroying my hard drives.
Anyway, thanks again to all for your help.
