Quite unfortunately, last year a couple weeks after labor day, someone was an idiot and popped one of ours. Now we only have one… We never did figure out who did it anyway. Ah, well, nothing can be done now…
If you ever stop being O.D.'d on FIRST, keep on feeling bad for people pulling trailers. In many states (including California), they can only go 55 mph while everyone else can go much faster, legally. And the horror stories my dad can tell! He has driven with a trailer for thousands of miles–with no serious incidents, thank the Lord!
you’re mom tells your dad that she wants to buy a roomba so you can take it apart, when she’s just looking for an excuse not to vaccume
Vacuuming is supposed to be the kids’ job. So what’s YOUR excuse?
P.S.: Tell your mom that Roomba needs its dust chamber emptied after every use, and after every 3 uses, the brushes must be disassembled for cleaning, and the sensors must be cleaned, and the person who does this chore will get dirty. Just did this today myself.
Last cleaning, Roomba vacuumed like a little kid: ran around the room a few times, missed spots, twice attacked his enemy the carpet sweeper, then announced “I’M DONE!!” prematurely. He usually does a better job.
Especially those cliff sensors–that’s what got the last one.
When you notice that the Mythbusters got an Airtrax forklift (AKA mecanum-drive forklift)-- and remember that one of them at least used to mentor an FRC team. (And then you remember that said Mythbuster can probably give a status update on that himself if he wants–and probably won’t, remembering what happened last time he did.)
When you know who he’s talking about and what team he appeared in public with last.
(No, I’m not stalking the man, I just follow that team)
When you agonize over javascript performance for a library you are working on. Did you know that javascript objects are just named associative arrays?
When you plan on doing a massive rewrite of a python script to improve performance by a couple dozen clock cycles just because you want to keep the caching time down so the regional twitter feeds can be as up to date as possible.
When you keep detailed notes about changes that need to be added to said scripts to make it better.
when you count down to kick off, and not christmas
DUH…kickoff IS Christmas!
When you check chiefdelphi before email now.
…90% of the topics in your recent activity feed are marked as read.
…you start recognizing spotlight quotes by the thread they are from…that happened in 2002 (this is proof I read the archives WAY too much)
…you have a half dozen or more posts in this thread.
During the WKCE (Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Exam, it’s totally outdated), you jump on the opportunity to talk about FIRST.
You need a “It’s a robot” bumper sticker for your truck.
… you contemplate figuring out how to unbolt the middle seats in a van nearly as old as you so you can more easily transfer your robot from place to place. (These bolts go through the bottom of the van, and are protected from the elements by a metal plate (they go into threaded holes so at least I wouldn’t have to find nuts on the underside) but would be incredibly rusted.)
(Never actually did take out the seats but it fit in with the frame about 3" from the back window glass fortunately it never hit the glass (put a blanket over it and I think it would have hit the ceiling first) or that would be bad to say the least, and my sister would have killed me…)
Seconded.
When you’ll build 250 sit-skis for the team’s off-season project, but you won’t do your math homework
…when you’re doing a “label these important cities on a map of the states” assignment: "Don’t know that one, not that one, wow, I’ll have to look up that one, never heard of that one, or that one, I KNOW THIS ONE! writes down Atlanta in it’s rightful, honored place
When you’re mildly amused that 111 friends are online for chat on facebook, just cause of WildStang.
When you figure this is the thread to ask this…
I want to make my room a review of all of the past games. so… I would like to know some of the game pieces and if anyone knows where to get them, because Christmas is right around the corner, and the relatives would like to know what I want! haha so any help with that?

Wikipedia is your friend :
Also, if you like a trip down memory lane for websites the internet archive is pretty handy. http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://usfirst.org The game rules are mostly available. (I am actually kind of surprised that FIRST hasn’t changed their website name yet, they haven’t been US FIRST since 1996.)
Today I was buying lobster from the local fish place.
I live in Maryland, (but I grew up in New England.)
The lobsters were covered by wet newspaper.
When I look down, there is Dean’s face and article about FIRST in the Nov. 19 Boston Globe.
I said “I know this guy! I’ve had dinner at his house.”
The fishmonger says “Our lobsters are very well read and would like to be invited next time.”
Yes, but the domain name refers to the site being U.S.-centric in nature. Or that it encompasses the entire U.S. (and the world, sure… but the U.S. is the epicenter)
Or it’s just stuck.
You know you’re overdosed on FIRST when your classmates don’t even know about the robotics team, and you meanwhile know more about FIRST than the team coach.
