You know you've overdosed on FIRST when...

-when you get no decent sleep for weeks
-when you stay up all of superbowl sunday just to collaborate with another team on skype
-when you see snow on the ground, you imediately wish you had the resources to build a robotic plow

when you come home and find a wago still in your back pocket
when you open your purse to see three safety glasses
when the person who has called you the most in the last four weeks in on another robotics team
when the only thing you friends discussed about the superbowl was how will.i.am didnt mention FIRST
when metal shavings come out of your hair
when you don’t sleep

Really? Out of curiousity, how did they get there in the first place?

when you don’t sleep

What is this sleep you talk about?

Machinery tends to make chips fly into weird places. Lathes and mills are particularly good at this, though drill presses are skilled as well. I’ve pulled many a metal chip out of the pocket of the hoodie I wear while using the lathe (which I wear so that I don’t freeze and don’t ruin ALL of my hoodies).

-when you’re hands are extremely dirty from all the coolant mixed with metal shards.
-when you have many cuts on you’re hand and you don’t know where they came from
-when you anxiously wait through every school day to get to the robotics lab

When you don’t even notice them until someone else says something, to which you shrug and say “well…robotics.”

You look at character count before word count in word!

When you put more thought into your CD screen name then your last major project (non first related)
When you multiple teams and still want more
You find time to mentor multiple teams (and still want to do more)
When you think grease and aluminum shaving covered hands are perfectly fine to eat with but wash thoroughly when you get anything else on them

…You really think you understand EVERY SINGLE RULE (and trust me, I don’t).

…It’s posters (made of pictures) of Dean Kamen and Woodie Flowers instead of your favorite band or favorite actor that are on your wall.

…You cherish the signature on your shirt from Dean or Woodie more than family treasures.

…You really think that your mentors are more important than your parents.

…When you start using a PWM cable as a wristband.

When you proudly tell your non-robotics friends you’ve spent 87.035 hours at Robotics this season.

When you find random bits and pieces of stuff in your pockets. (So far, I’ve found 2 .25" bolts, a washer for one of the .25" bolts, a WAGO, some wire, a couple links of energy chain)

When you’ve commented on this thread multiple times…

When your job isn’t to make sure people are wearing safety glasses, it’s to make sure they take them off when they leave.

when this is what you call a “good weekend”

When you walk into church with a tape measure on your back pocket without realizing it.

You know you’ve overdosed on first when…
… you look at bus 540 and think it’s your team number
… when you think the colors for your team are Red and white and not your schools’

-When you start blaming programmers for burned toast
-When PR becomes the most important part of the team
-When you say no to the movies with your friends and program at home.
-When you start spending time reading this post

Well played sir, very well played.

Guilty as charged.

Still not as bad as losing the game…

When at 12:00 o’clock on a saturday night you spend half an hour making a video like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbpWnF-XXVk

When putting your robot in the crate is harder then braking up with your GF

When you wake up and realize you have fallen asleep with safety glasses on and now have red line running on your face that wont go away for at least 12 hours.

When… wait, what? sorry, labview flashback

When you have a dream in which you are a robot made by a team of high school students built for the purpose of building another robot.

When you wake up to find you have drawn several hundred combinations of triangles circles and squares on you sheets.

When you have a dream that your robot is having a dream about you.

When you start changing the diagrams on your labview vis so that they look like your team mates and then start moving them around on the screen like action figures while making up a complicated LOTR themed plot line for their actions. - yes this one actually happened.

P.S. I just lost the game.

When you get home at 3, go on CD, and not start your homework till 12.

When you try to make a joke, but everyone stares at you stupidly cause they’re not your robotics friends.

When you spend all night designing robotics team shirts, just for everyone to not pick one cause they all look too good.

When CD and us FIRST are your top most visited sites.

when you post on CD at 1:02 in the morning.
