Okay, I know most of you are probably travelling to various kickoff, but I could not let the pre-season go by without causing some sort of a stir. I have tried in various threads on various fori (plural of forum?) but have failed in getting anybody to bite. So here goes another attempt:

[li]Wagers are just for fun.
[/li][li]All wagers are limited to the first person to respond to this message PRIOR to 9:00am EST on Jan. 5, 2002.
[/li][li]All bets are to be paid in cases of soda of the winners choice (e.g. Mt. Dew, Code Red, Coke, etc.).
[/li][li]Odds X:Y means that if Dr. Joe wins, he is owed X cases of his favorite soda, if Dr. Joe loses, he owes the winner Y cases of the winner’s favorite soda.
[/li][li]Payout to be at the Championship Event unless other arrangements are mutually agreed to in advance.
[/li][li]In the case of a dispute of the winner of the bet, a poll on this forum will determine the outcome.
[/li][li]Finally and most importantly, Dr. Joe has no inside knowledge of any thing – I AM JUST GUESSING AND INFERRING FROM PUBLIC DATA – REALLY.

Why are you ending the wager an hour after the kickoff starts??? The actual kickoff starts at 8:00 am EST in New Hampshire. The Webcast-Nasa Feed starts @ 9:00 am EST.
Another question that will appeal to the gambler in you;
What are the odds of someone being able to post the game they learn at kickoff in NH between 8:00 and 9:00 EST if they are at NH and have a mobile web device to post on the C.D. forums???

Shouldn’t that be the other way around. I.E.: If I bet one case on torroids, shouldn’t you pay out 2 if I win, since I am placing the bet?
I set the wagers and the odds. Since the game can be ANYTHING, I think that it is in general riskier to make a statement about what the game will be than to state what it will NOT be. So, in general, the odds favor me in that I get a higher benefit for me if I am correct.
For example, If I were to bet you on the outcome of a single roll of a fair 6 sided dice, I might have a feeling about the dice coming up #1 next roll. In this case, I would make a statement like “Then next roll will be a 1 : Odds 6:1” meaning I bet that then next roll will be a 1, if someone accepts my wager and a 1 comes up, they would owe me 6 cases of Mt. Dew. If it came up anything other than a 1, I would have to pay them 1 case of whatever they wanted.
Assuming that the setter of the odds and the accepter of the bet are equally good a predicting outcomes (and that the bet is repeated many times) over time everything will average out and nobody will be richer or poorer for all the betting.
In the case of fair dice everyone is (or should be) equally bad at prediction but equally good at estimating the odds of various outcomes. However, in other cases (e.g. predicting FIRST games) it is tricker. In this case, I am making a claim and posting up odds. If you think I have mis-judged the odds, then you will think that it is a good bet and take me up on it. If so, feel free.
Now concerning Mr. Rawls:
I am afraid in light of the discussion above that you may have misunderstood my position, so I will not accept your wager until we are clear. I win if the game is 2 vs 2. You win if the game is something other than 2 vs. 2.
Hmm … sorry about that, I guess I misunderstood. Well, I’m not in with that bet, but I’m in with this one:
I bet that there will not be only 1 goal. (I think there will be two, but that doesn’t effect the bet, I guess). We probably need to define what we mean by “goal.” This is what I came up with in my head, feel free to improve it.
A goal is any object in/on which things (most likely balls, but anything except robots, i.e and endzone is not a goal) can be placed to score points.
Evan “The Kidd” Doyle beat you to the punch concerning torroids.
Your picture of the goal looks cool, but you are very much mistaken I am afraid.
Care to wager on the goal construction? 5 to 1 odds, very steep if you loose, but remember all 3 attributes have to be right for me to collect (I have just edited my initial post to clarify this point).
If I am wrong on even one, you win.
In your opinion, I am wrong about the vertical fence made from upright 1" PVC.
The second condition of the goal wager is that the 1" PVC conduits will make up an “fence” of verital poles around the perimeter of the goal.
That is they will be like pales of a fence around the edge of the goal. Imaging an old west fort – the vertical sharp pointy sticks are pales. Of course, the density of the pales will not be as high as in a fence of this type and they will not be pointy, but you get the idea.
LoL, I am but a poor high school student Joe, but I will bet you one Dew that the goals will not be what you predict. And since the bet is such a small amount, if you are right, I will fork over a audience gaspfull six-pack of the soda of your choice.
~Tom Fairchild~, who’s thinking that this was a great way to stir up excitement.
I see your flat floor bet. There is no way the floor is going to be flat, there’s no fun in that. I expect my payment as a case of Dr. Pepper on day one of"The Champonship".
